November 17, 2011, Tampa, FL — Healthesystems’ chief executive officer, Ron Roma, was recently honored as a national finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2011. Mr. Roma placed in the top four out of 29 national finalists in the service category. This year’s award recipients were chosen from a field of close to 2,000 of the best and brightest entrepreneurs in ten categories.
All finalists including Mr. Roma were honored at an awards gala hosted by Jay Leno held on November 12th in Palm Springs, California. Mr. Roma was in good company at the gala, as the overall winners included LinkedIn CEOs Reid Hoffman and Jeff Weiner.
Mr. Roma was selected for this award by a panel of independent judges representing regional business, civic and academic leaders as an entrepreneur who, according to Ernst & Young LLP, has demonstrated extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to his business and community.
“I am honored to be considered for this national award and to be in the company of such successful and talented entrepreneurs from across the country,” stated Roma. “Having started several companies over the past two decades, Healthesystems has certainly been the most rewarding because we are literally changing and improving the way things are done – and setting new standards within the workers’ compensation industry.”
Mr. Roma continued on to say, “We are very fortunate to be able to run our business where we answer only to the needs of our customers, and the talent of our top notch employees allows us to be nimble and flexible, while creating new and innovative solutions to many of the challenges and complexities of this niche industry.”
Mr. Roma has spent the last 30 years helping insurance payers and providers reduce the complexities of the pharmacy industry. He is a true pioneer in this industry and has owned and operated several prolific companies over the past twenty-five years. As the founder and chief executive officer of Healthesystems, Mr. Roma is the visionary behind many of the company’s products, services and technology offerings. His extensive industry insight is called upon routinely to help predict industry trends and to position the company to effectively meet the ever-changing needs of clients and vendors.
His successful entrepreneurial history includes running companies that have shaped much of what the the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) industry looks like today. In addition to developing one of the first workers’ compensation specific PBM programs, he founded a company that developed an industry-leading pharmacy management system used to prospectively adjudicate real-time pharmacy transactions. This software platform is currently used today by many PBMs and providers.
Mr. Roma started Healthesystems to specifically address the many inefficiencies found in the workers’ compensation PBM industry. Due to his unique historical knowledge and experience in the PBM marketplace, the company has been able to develop a more effective approach to pharmacy benefits management for its customers.
